Wrap up meeting of 2016 Article 4 mission to Cambodia
2016-07-18

In the morning of July 18, 2016, H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, allowed IMF 2016 Article IV Mission, led by Mr. Markus Rodlauer, Deputy Director of the Asia Pacific Department of the IMF, to brief about the assessment of economic and financial development in Cambodia after their visit from July 6-20, 2016.

First and foremost, IMF warmly congratulated on Cambodia’s robust economic growth and sound financial sector, with expected growth for 2016-2017 of around 7% together with low inflation of 3.2% at the end of 2016.

In addition, IMF pointed out some key challenges which include rapid credit growth and external risks such as a significant slowdown in China, an appreciating U.S. dollar, weaker growth in Europe and increased uncertainty from the Brexit referendum result, and a sharper-than-anticipated tightening in global financial conditions.

To continue achieving sustainable economic development, IMF recommended further measures to maintain macroeconomic and financial stability and foster economic growth.
